Read more »     How do you firmly set your heart and mind to emotionally detach from your dysfunctional adult children? I separated from their narc Dad and the golden child will only talk about her cats and my son, the scapegoat, is engaging when I reach out but does not reciprocate. My daughter love bombs and my son bread crumbs and when they do, I feel the return of my Mom-heart and think maybe they're changing, growing up, etc. Please don't suggest that they may "come around;" as they get older they actually get worse. What can I say to myself, a mantra so to speak to protect my heart and not look for signs of love in them.
