Ana Caufman (left) and Jessica Macias are
the dynamic Venezuelan women behind
Maison Numen, a newly launched online
business that champions independent craftspeople
and artisans. The pair have pulled
together an impressive debut collection
made up of nearly 200 pieces from makers
in Mexico, Venezuela, Guatemala, Peru and
Colombia. What is particularly appealing
is the emphasis on provenance that Maison
Numen applies to its wares. Its website
explains each item's origin – from the handwoven
Mexican textiles by the Mérida-based
Iddanela Martin to functional and decorative
basket work by the indigenous peoples
of Venezuela, including patterned trays
(pictured below). Ceramics and wood accessories
are also in the mix, and there are
plans to launch a follow-up collection later
this year of pieces by European craftspeople.
Put the internet to work for you.
